Tuscany on Motorcycle

Due to its scenery of sweet hills, to its wonderful landscape roads, to its smoothly uneven relief, to the mild climate of the region, and because of many reasons more, Tuscany is an ideal region to travel around on motorbike enjoying the privileged panorama which moving along on two wheels gives you. Travellers coming from Germany were the pioneers in this kind of tourism, which has later on extended to every nationality.

Nowadays it is easy to cross paths with a big number of motorists, who explore Tuscany and enjoy the comfort and quickness of this means of transport. All the areas of the region can be toured on motorbike because, as we have already mentioned, owing to the smoothly uneven landscape of the area it is difficult to find roads where the access by motorbike is not recommended.

Besides, as regards Spain in particular, the access by ship to Civitevacchia (Rome) or Livorno, facilitates the trip to a great extent as from these ports travellers can find themselves in the centre of Tuscany in a matter of hours to start their route. From all the routes that can be chosen to tour the region there are those who pick to travel round the Etruscan Coast, to visit the famous beaches of the Tuscan coast, or the precious natural park of Maremma. This route could cover the area of Grossetto and its magnificent beaches, the gulf of Follonica and Piombino and take you as far as the extense and amazing area of Cecina.

From that point you would have the option to continue the trip to Livorno and successively go deep and deep into the area to visit Pisa and Lucca in the north of the region, or else, to take the route from Cecina to Volterra and San Gimignano and have the chance of discovering these beautiful and historic towns. Another option would be to visit the towns of Chianti and then trace a route that would span the towns of Castelnuovo Berardenga, San Gusmè, Monteriggioni and go all the way to San Gimignano.

In any case, and from all the possible proposals, maybe the most spectacular eye-alluring one is that which offers the possibility of visiting the towns in the south of Tuscany, located in the spellbinding region of Valdorcia, which has been declared world patrimony of the UNESCO.

Travelling by motorcycle along the touristic routes of the region one has the sensation of being part of a picture in which the perfection of the lines makes it difficult to believe you are engulfed in a real landscape. The main towns in Valdorcia are Radicofani, Sarteano, Cetona, Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico d’Orcia, Castiglion d’Orcia, Montichiello, Montepulciano, Bagno Vignoni and Bagni San Filippo. If there is not enought time to visit all these marvellous towns, the traveller could follow the route that passes through Pienza – Montepulciano – Bagno Vignoni and Montichiello. The road that leads to Pienza discloses identical images to those portrayed in books and documentaries about Tuscany, and which are worthing seeing as they are of indescriptible beauty, and no picture in the world can do justice to what enjoying this splendid panorama means.
