The Museums
- The Museo della Porcellana (Porcelain Museum) is hosted in the charming “Villino del Cavaliere” at the top of the Boboli Gardens, close to the Rose Garden.
The museum preserves a series of treasured porcelain works collected by the different monarchs of Tuscany who resided in Palazzo Pitti. The large collection comprises exclusive pieces of Sèvres, Vincennes, Meissen, Capodimonte, Buen Retiro, Compañía de Indias and Wedgewood.
The Museum opens daily, except the 1st and 4th Monday of the month.
From June to August: 8:15 am to 7:30pm.
On April, May, September and October: 8:15 to 6:30pm.
From November to February: 8:15am to 4:30pm.
On March: 8:15am to 5:30pm
The admission ticket comprises the visit to the Museo degli Argenti hosted in Palazzo Pitti.
- The Galleria del Costume (Clothing Museum) is hosted on the ground floor of the stylish neoclassical small palace of “La Meridiana” constructed in 1776 by the renowned Tuscan architect Gaspare Maria Paoletti (1727-1813) and after enlarged by Pasquale Poccianti (1774-1858). The small palace is situated next to Palazzo Pitti and faces to a large meadow, richly ornamented with tiny avenues flanked by ancient trees and statues.
“La Meridiana” has been one of the residences of the Royal Family in Tuscany until the abolition of the monarchy in Italy (1946).
It preserves an important series of clothing from the second half of the 18th century until the first decades of the 20th, which belonged to the corresponding monarchic dynasties in Florence and their respective courts.
The museum opens from Tuesday to Saturday: 8:15am to 1:50pm, alternating Monday and Sunday.
The admission ticket is 5 euros and includes the visit to the Galleria d’Arte Moderna hosted in the Pitti Palace.
