Events in Tuscany during September:
There are many reasons why September is the ideal month of the year to travel to Tuscany: the beautiful colour of the landscape which gradually starts acquiring the typical shades of the autumn, the pleasant mild weather, not as hot as in the summer, the arriving of the grape harvest time and the people always so kind and welcoming. All this confirms that September is the perfect season to travel and enjoy in peace the most charming landscapes of the region.
What is more, due to the grape harvest there are many and various festivals and events where the main protagonists are the precious wines of the area.
Here is a list of the most outstanding events of the month:
On September 3rd - 6th it will take place “Settembre di Vino” – Festa delle Cantine 2009, in Pitigliano (Grosseto). During this celebration, the ancient wineries, which were originally dug in the rocks, will be reopened. In this seductive and unique scenario everyone will be able to taste the local wines and products as they set off for an authentic trip to the past where’s possible to melt in a fusion of the ancient flavours and perfumes of the grape harvest.

On September 4th - 6th takes place la “Festa dell'Uva e del Vino” in Sinalunga. On September 4th to 6th, the beautiful town of Sinalunga (Siena) celebrates the wine production of the area in a festival dedicated to this noble activity. There are plenty of things to do, like trying the exquisite Tuscan gastronomy, or attend to the most hilarious and curious competition: different neighbourhoods will try to be the best ones in picking the greatest quantity of wine by mashing the grapes in earthenware jars specially prepared for this occasion, a total reminiscence of the ancient tradition of wine production.
September 6th: Eno-theatral tour in Vinci: La Via di Caterina. All those who love nature and good wine will be pleased to know about the itinerary “La Via di Caterina”. This special event recreates the childhood of the great Tuscan artist Leonardo da Vinci through a theatrical walk, surrounded by the greenest landscapes of the area, among fields, vineyards, country houses and windmills. During the way there will be several programmed stops in order to taste various wine specialties of the area. The hike starts in the Vinci neighbourhood by the church of San Pantaleo. This route presents no particular difficulties; it’s actually recommended for people of all ages. The rendezvous is set at 4 p.m. in Piazza Guazzesi, in Vinci.
The 14th edition of the Medieval Festival will take place in Vicopisano, Province of Pisa, on the weekend of September 6th and 7th. During the last weeks, the town council has been preparing a vast program full of events and presentations for all the family. The perfectly preserved towers and medieval buildings, together with lots of torches illuminating the streets, several traditional parades and the momentary disappearing of the euro exchange, the ancient town of Vico recreates in exactly the same way the period of the Middle Ages.
The visitors will be charmed by immersing themselves in this magic atmosphere and live an absolutely singular experience.
Medieval taverns, a beautiful market of miscellaneous, street acting, acrobats, and more! It's just a matter of soaking up in the enchantment of those past ages and let the imagination fly freely amid the most important celebration of the year.

September 19th - 27th: the Grape and Wine Festival, in Chiusi. This is a unique occasion to visit this Tuscan city and to take this opportunity to taste the best wines of the area and its traditional dishes. There is also an Etruscan Museum which is worthwhile visiting. During the whole celebrating week, there will be plenty of funny things to do by the itinerant spectacles, the extraordinary music and all sorts of entertainment.
